Getting Started

How do I become a SLYD provider?

To become a SLYD provider:

  1. Review our hardware requirements
  2. Submit an application at provider.slyd.com/register
  3. Wait for approval (typically 24-48 hours during beta)
  4. Follow our quick start guide to set up your servers

How long does provider approval take?

During our beta period, provider applications are reviewed manually within 24-48 hours. We'll notify you via email once your application is approved. Expedited approval may be available for enterprise providers with significant infrastructure.

Is there a cost to become a provider?

No, there are no upfront costs or fees to join the SLYD provider network. We operate on a revenue share model where SLYD takes a 20% platform fee from consumer payments, and you keep 80% of the revenue generated by your resources.

Requirements

What are the minimum hardware requirements?

Minimum requirements include:

  • CPU: 8+ physical cores with virtualization support
  • RAM: 32GB DDR4 minimum
  • Storage: 500GB available space
  • Network: 100Mbps dedicated bandwidth
  • OS: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS or newer

See our hardware guide for detailed recommendations.

Can I use consumer-grade hardware?

Yes, consumer hardware can be used for entry-level providing, but enterprise-grade hardware is recommended for better reliability and performance. Consumer hardware limitations include:

  • Limited ECC memory support
  • Fewer PCIe lanes for expansion
  • Less robust 24/7 operation ratings
  • Limited remote management capabilities

Do I need a static IP address?

Yes, a static IP address is required for reliable operation. Dynamic IPs can cause connection issues and downtime. If your ISP doesn't provide static IPs, consider business internet service or using a VPN service with static IP support.

Earnings & Payments

How much can I earn as a provider?

Earnings depend on several factors including hardware specs, pricing, uptime, and utilization. Typical earnings ranges:

  • Entry-level (1 server): $500-1,000/month
  • Professional (dedicated hardware): $3,000-5,000/month
  • Enterprise (multiple servers): $10,000+/month

GPU-enabled servers typically earn 5-10x more than CPU-only configurations.

When and how do I get paid?

Payments are processed monthly with the following schedule:

  • Earnings accumulated: 1st-31st of each month
  • Processing period: 1st-5th of following month
  • Payment initiated: 10th of each month
  • Funds received: 10th-15th depending on payment method

Available payment methods include ACH (US), wire transfer (international), and cryptocurrency.

What is the revenue share model?

During the beta period, providers receive 80% of consumer payments for resources used on their infrastructure. SLYD retains 20% to cover platform operations, development, support, and payment processing. This is one of the most competitive revenue shares in the industry.

Technical Questions

What virtualization technology does SLYD use?

SLYD uses LXD (Linux Containers) for instance virtualization. LXD provides:

  • Near-native performance with minimal overhead
  • Strong security isolation between instances
  • Fast provisioning and deployment
  • Efficient resource utilization

Our provider software handles all LXD configuration automatically.

Can I run other services on my provider server?

We strongly recommend dedicating servers exclusively to SLYD workloads for optimal performance and security. Running other services can:

  • Impact instance performance
  • Create security vulnerabilities
  • Complicate troubleshooting
  • Violate provider agreements

How do I handle server maintenance?

SLYD provides maintenance mode functionality to handle updates gracefully:

  1. Schedule maintenance window in advance
  2. System notifies affected consumers automatically
  3. New instances are prevented from starting
  4. Existing instances can complete or migrate
  5. Perform maintenance and exit maintenance mode

See our maintenance procedures for detailed instructions.

Security & Compliance

How does SLYD ensure security between instances?

SLYD implements multiple layers of security:

  • Container isolation: Full namespace separation
  • Network isolation: Private networks per instance
  • Resource limits: Cgroup enforcement
  • Access control: Encrypted tunnels only
  • Security profiles: AppArmor/SELinux enforcement

Consumers never have direct access to your hardware or other instances.

What about legal liability for consumer activities?

SLYD's terms of service prohibit illegal activities and providers are protected by:

  • Safe harbor provisions similar to other hosting providers
  • Clear terms of service that consumers must accept
  • Automated abuse detection and prevention
  • Rapid response to abuse reports

Providers are not liable for consumer activities when operating within our guidelines.

Do I need to handle GDPR/privacy compliance?

SLYD handles data privacy compliance at the platform level. As a provider, you:

  • Should not access instance data
  • Must securely wipe storage when instances terminate
  • Should maintain physical security of servers
  • Must notify SLYD of any security incidents

Our provider software handles data lifecycle management automatically.

Support & Policies

What support does SLYD provide to providers?

SLYD offers comprehensive provider support including:

  • 24/7 technical support via dashboard chat
  • Dedicated provider support email
  • Extensive documentation and guides
  • Community forums and knowledge base
  • Regular webinars and training sessions

Enterprise providers may qualify for dedicated account management.

Can I stop being a provider?

Yes, you can stop providing resources at any time. The process is:

  1. Notify SLYD support of your intention to leave
  2. Stop accepting new instances (maintenance mode)
  3. Allow existing instances to complete or migrate
  4. Receive final payment for accumulated earnings
  5. Uninstall provider software

We require 30 days notice for orderly transition of any long-term instances.

What happens during the beta period?

During our beta phase (current through Q3 2025):

  • All core provider features are available
  • Revenue share is locked at favorable 80/20 split
  • Direct feedback channel to development team
  • Early access to new features
  • Potential for grandfathered benefits post-beta

Beta providers help shape the platform and often receive special recognition and benefits.
